Join the Flathead National Forest (FNF) Heritage and the Region 1 Historic Preservation teams as we continue rehabilitation work on the 1918 Ford Schoolhouse, located along the beautiful North Fork of the Flathead River! In June 2019, the FNF initiated Phase I of the Ford Schoolhouse rehabilitation project. The second phase of the schoolhouse preservation work will take place this year with a focus on replacing the existing roof with period-correct, cedar shingles, and restoring the foundation, working mostly with hand tools, though a few power tools. If time allows, we may also begin interior tasks such as flooring, log work, or framing. Early June in NW Montana is a gorgeous time of year, but we have unpredictable weather - be prepared for cool/cold nights and any range of temperatures during the days. Precipitation is common and mosquito repellant will be a must! Nevertheless, activities "off the clock" could include fishing, biking, hiking, sight-seeing, scenic driving, or any number of other outdoor activtities. We'll also be just a short distance from Glacier National Park - we hope to see you in June!
