The Sierra NF is seeking a small group of PIT volunteers who will get an opportunity to join a backpacking trip into the wilderness to help conduct archaeological survey. While much of the Sierra has been surveyed, the high elevation wilderness remains poorly documented, despite is known importance in Native American and historic pioneer cultures. We will be searching for and recording historic trails, prehistoric sites, historic camps, and cabins. Please note that this project may not be for everyone: we will pack in, pack out, and conduct survey at high elevations, and cover some rough terrain. We will also be camping in primitive, dispersed conditions - filtering water, sleeping in tents, and cooking over open fires. But, if this type of "get away from it all" setting is appealing, this project is for you! We hope to see you this summer!
