Must commit to entire session

The Huron-Manistee National Forest invites volunteers to participate in an important archaeological laboratory project! Participants will work with professional archaeologists to clean, organize and repackage artifact collections recovered from prehistoric and historic archaeological sites located throughout the Upper Great Lakes. PIT volunteers will receive full orientation and instruction on lab methods and techniques, including artifact interpretation and classification skills. The project will be complimented by a visit to the world-renowned Milwaukee Public Museum and a tour of one of their special exhibits: "Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt." The exhibit features nearly 150 artifacts from Cleopatra's time and is designed to expose visitors to the present-day search for the elusive Queen, which extends from the sands of Egypt to the depths of the Bay of Abukir near Alexandria. The Museum visit will be a rare and exciting venture, and will give volunteers an opportunity to more fully appreciate the value of their efforts. Join us this winter as we preserve the past for the future!
