Salmon Lake Cabin Restoration

Tongass National Forest, Thorne Bay Ranger District, Alaska, 1995
by Jack Van Wye, PIT Volunteer

“We Are One”

Amidst the snow-capped mountains,
Amidst the wilderness and its soul,
Man breathed first life into this cabin.
With the forest, the waters, the creatures,
With the caring hands of Man,
This cabin remains our sentinel to Salmon Lake.
It has lived in unforgiving elements,
Yet it remains in harmony
With its home in Nature.
Its age is an honor
And an enemy.
It has protected many; it has endured much.
As with its birth, man has returned to its aid.
To the aid of this sacred beacon,
Linking our past to our future.
Welcome its warmth.
Savor its shelter.
Respect its age.
Appreciate its heritage
Of Mankind with Nature,
For We Are One.

Dedicated to All Those Who Hold Salmon Lake Cabin Dear to Their Hearts
