PIT mourns the loss of Joan Goddard Fluker

Joan Goddard Fluker, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, with her loving daughters by her side. A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 25th at 7:00 PM at Amerson River Park. The daughter of the late John & Mabel Foster Goddard, Joan was born in Morgantown, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Foster Goddard. Joan was a dedicated teacher for many years at Walter P. Jones, Springdale & Stratford Academy. During her career, she touched the lives of of more 1,500 students inspiring many to call her their favorite teacher to this day. Joan had quite an adventurous spirit resulting in lifelong travels throughout the United States & the world. She had a great love of the outdoors whether gardening in her yard or camping in one of her many favorite National Parks. If one phrase could be used to describe Joan, it would be that she "never met a stranger." She will truly be missed by all who ever had the privilege of knowing her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Miki Fluker & Terri Fluker Gilman (Kerry); granddaughters Elizabeth Causey & Sara Gilman.
