The USDA Forest Service and PIT mourn the loss of Linda Martin

by Jill Osborn, former PIT National Coordinator

Linda Martin, former Forest Archaeologist on the Apache Sitgreaves NF passed away in Flagstaff on August 10 after suffering a heart attack several days earlier. Linda started with the Forest Service in 1986 on the Tonto National Forest in Arizona. From there she went to the Mark Twain and then back to Arizona as the Forest Archaeologist on the Apache-Sitgreaves. She recently took the National Environmental Policy Act Coordinator job on the Williams District of the Kaibab. While on the Apache-Sitgreaves, she conducted a number of PIT projects from 1995 through 2002 including several seasons on the Silver Creek Archaeological Project and exploring and documenting sites on the Mogollon Rim. The many PIT volunteers whose lives she touched, will miss her, as do her fellow Forest Service colleagues and those of us at the PIT Clearinghouse. Our thoughts are with her husband Fred and her family.
