Montana - Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF
Closed!  Selway Meadows Section 110 Survey

MT-4262
August 3-7, 2015

Must commit to entire session

Join us this summer on the majestic Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest for an important "hike into the past," site documentation project! The Selway Meadows Section 110 Survey project will involve pedestrian survey and site documentation throughout the greater Selway Meadows area of the Forest. Portions of Selway Meadows have been previously documented, and suggest a high probability that we will locate of both historic and pre-Contact (i.e., prior to ca. A.D. 1550) archaeological sites. These sites may include portions of historic trails with national significance, such as the Nez Perce National Historic trail. Volunteers and FS Heritage staff will survey and document new and previously recorded cultural resources. Survey will involve fairly arduous hiking under a variety of conditions and types of terrain, so bring layers and your favorite (broken-in) hiking boots! The Selway Meadows area is lush, and noted for its vegetative variety and prolific flowers. We will base camp in a dispersed area in the Meadows, and you will get to take in this beauty every day "on the job" – we hope you'll join us in August!
