Stanislaus National Forest to host July cultural event
The Stanislaus National Forest will host a free cultural event July 9-12 and the public is invited to explore the rich history of Native American culture in California. The 7th annual Sierra Footsteps Passport in Time event will be held at the Wakaluu Hepyoo Campground on the Calaveras Ranger District. The workshop highlights Me-Wuk cultural practices presented by volunteers, local educators and Me-Wuk cultural practitioners. Through the skilled hands of Native basket weavers, participants will experience the richness of traditional ways in a spectacular outdoor setting and learn to process acorns as well as craft soaproot brushes and digging sticks.
